Defining Assignments:
Total Points with Subcategories

Step 1

Open a class. Select File> Open and choose a class.

Step 2

Go to Options and remove the checkmark next to EasyMode. (Just click Easy Mode to uncheck it.  You are turning Easy Mode off).

Please note, Easy Mode must be off every time you add or edit assignments when you use subcategories.

Step 3

Select Define > Assignments.

The assignment window will appear.

Step 4

Select Add (or highlight existing assignment and click Edit) to make changes.

Step 5

Give the Assignment a name (hw1, quiz 1 etc.) in the description. Adding a date to the description can be very helpful when the assignment name is printed.

Step 6

In First Category Link, select the subcategory of your choice that has a weight of 0. In the example above the link is Tests/Quizzes.

Step 7

In Second Category Link select Total Points which has a weight of 100.

Step 8

In Edit Mode select Numeric.

Step 9

DO NOT CLICK THE EXTRA CREDIT BOX.

If checked, the points will be added to the final grade. Extra credit, as most teachers use it, is entered into the grade book as an assignment with a maximum value of 0.

Step 10

Select a due date if you choose.

Due dates can either be the date assigned or the date due. A due date provides you with information linking attendance and the assignment.

Select the maximum point value, Max Value for the assignment.

Step 12

Breakpoints should be Streetsboro Breakpoints.

Step 13
