Defining Categories:
Total Points with Subcategories Checklist |

Let me give you this scenario.
Let’s say you are in a parent conference and are reviewing
the student’s grades. You have printed out a report listing
all of the assignments and the student’s score on each assignment
and you have shown the parent the student’s current grade
in your class. However the parent says, “Gee I would really
like to know how my child is doing on tests, homework, labs, etc....
Can you show me?” You can provide this information easily
if your grades are set up with subcategories.

To set up the CATEGORY
of Total Point use the following checklist.

| Step 1 |
Open a class using
File>Open
or select.
|
| Step 2 |
Select
Define> Categories. The
category window will appear.
|
| Step 3 |
Select on
Edit.
Change the category description to Total Points.
|
| Step 4 |
Select
Numeric for
Reporting Preference.
|
| Step 5 |
Choose
Total Points
(Summation Percentage) for Method of Grading (this is the
default setting). |
| Step 6 |
Choose
Streetsboro BreakPoints
for Letter Grades BPs.

| Step 7 |
Type
100
for Category Weight.
|

To set up the SUBCATEGORIES, follow the checklist for each
subcategory.

| Step 8 |
Select
ADD to add an additional
category. This process must be followed for each subcategory.

| Step 9 |
For Description label
your category as
tests, homework, projects, etc.
|
| Step 10 |
For Reporting Preference
select
Numeric.
|
| Step 11 |
For Method of Grading, select
Total points (Summation Percentage).
|
| Step 12 |
For Letter Grade BP’s, select
Streetsboro BreakPoints.
|
| Step 13 |
The Category Weight for
each subcategory is
0.
|
| Step 14 |
Repeat the above for each
subcategory (Homework, Test, Projects).
Remember that the category
weight for subcategories is 0.
|
| Step 15 |
Select
OK when done.
|
| |

Once you have set up your categories,
you should proceed to
Defining
Assignments.
